     Year Book Pictures Needed!!

As we are finishing up pages on this year’s yearbook, we would like to extend an offer to all you parents, teachers, or staff! If you have taken any pictures that you feel would be a GREAT addition to the yearbook, now is your time to turn them in. These pictures can be from school events, class projects or field trips.  We will try and use as many as we can. Please e-mail to me or place them on a CD and turn into the PTA attention Yearbook. Make sure they have your child’s name and teacher for our records and a brief description of the photo. We will try and return all CD’s but please don’t send your only copy. We do have our 1st deadline fast approaching so please don’t delay if you would like to see your picture added in.

The yearbooks will be going on sale here in the next month so keep an eye out for the order form!

E-mail pictures to: mamalone5@comcast.net

Thanks,

Letter from the Presidents of the PTA

Dear Apollo families,

Has the summer really come and gone that quickly?  It seems like it was only yesterday that we were picking up our children from their last day of school and now we’re buying school supplies all over again.  Before we know it, we’ll be picking out costumes for Halloween.  Ok, we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves.

Anyway, we are truly excited to introduce ourselves as your 2007-08 PTA Co-Presidents.  This term is a first for both of us but one that we are dedicated to making the most of.  We started our summer by meeting with our executive committee to determine exactly what our mission will be and establish a set of goals to achieve that mission.  You can find our mission and goals on the PTA website at www.apollopta.org or in our PTA brochure.  We also shared these goals and our mission with our principal, Marla Erath.

This school year our PTA set a goal of obtaining 100% membership.  Last school year, 28 Washington State schools reached 100% membership and, impressively 23 of these schools were from the Issaquah School District.  Please help Apollo Elementary achieve 100% membership by joining the PTA today.  Studies show that parent involvement in their children’s education directly correlates to children’s success.  By joining the PTA, you get to speak for the educational interest of your children at Apollo as well as the state and national levels.

Did you know that your PTA funds a large variety of programs that benefit all children at Apollo?  PTA provides grant monies for teachers and specialists to assist with special class purchases, educational assemblies, and school projects.  We sponsor the numerous family fun nights throughout the school year, field trips, and parent education workshops.  Last school year, PTA purchased active boards (a computerized interactive teaching board) for every classroom at Apollo.  This year we set a goal to begin moving away from the traditional fundraisers (i.e., selling products door to door) and towards fewer but more impactful ones.  We’re trying out two new programs that have proven to be very successful at a number of other schools across the state:  Pass the Hat and SCRIP (you can learn more about these programs in another part of the packet).  Please note that since we don’t yet know how successful these two will be, we’ll have to continue with our traditional fundraisers (i.e., gift wrap sales) until we’re able to fund our programs entirely from revenues generated from SCRIP and Pass the Hat.

Our children are truly fortunate to attend a school with highly gifted teachers (68% of our teachers have at least a master’s degree), a dedicated staff and a hardworking PTA.  Please help us to provide our children with the best educational environment possible by joining the PTA today.  We look forward to seeing you around Apollo.  Please contact us if you have any questions or ideas.  Have a fantastic year!
